So after 17 days on the 17 Day Diet bandwagon I’m down 10 pounds. Not too shabby. While I’ve kept a good game face most of the time, I’m pretty sick of lettuce. I’m ready for a nice, juicy rib-eye, grilled to perfection, sitting hot and tasty on my plate, ready to be devoured. With sauteed mushrooms. And a baked potato. Loaded.

Gary vs. Cancer

Cancer sucks. It can wreak havoc in people’s lives. Not too long ago, and depending on the type, a cancer diagnosis seemed like a death sentence.

But, science is making progress. The National Cancer Institute reports that as of 2007 there are close to 12 million cancer survivors in the U.S. Recently, we were fortunate to sit down with one.

Nine years ago, while shaving, Gary found a bump under his chin. Several months later he was told it was cancer, and that he needed to shut down his life. 8 to 10 years was all he had left. Today, Gary shares his battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, what it’s been like, how he’s handled it, the treatments he tried, how it’s affected his life and the role his faith has played. Incredibly, he even expresses a thankfulness.

And so, it begins. 17 days.

As 2011 dawned, I committed to lose 15 lbs. Hope were high. But then, like a lot of others, I was washed-up in 30 days. Oh, I’d lost 5, but then I was done in by impatience and a lack of discipline.
